Hello there my name is Beverley Beattie and live with my husband Tom in Nottingham England.I have been knitting for over 40 years (that sounds scary as I still think I’m about 19yrs old!!) My mums godmother Auntie Mo and my grandmother taught me to knit and crochet when I was still at junior school and I made my pocket money crocheting ponchos when they were all the rage the first time around. I made toys and sold them to boost my pocket money. Patricia Roberts was my hero and my first sweater was a long one with bobbles knitted all over it and as it took me so long to make it, I could never part with it, so it is stashed up in the loft
I knitted baby clothes for all the family and friends as their offspring arrived. I adored the Phildar and Pinguin patterns, that is when my pattern collection started. I couldn’t resist them and they are still great today as they seem timeless classic patterns. I made mohair cardigans and sweaters for family members as I couldn’t wear them myself. My wool and yarn collection started (now obsession) I couldn’t resist the odd balls of textures and colours of fancy yarns and sale yarns just had to be bought to add to my stash. Colinette yarns a firm favourite.
Whilst doing a rug course a few years ago I had to knit fabric as part of the ten required samples and then the knitting bug caught me again and the needles haven’t stopped since. Knitting and felting then became the thing that kept me occupied and having experimented with wools from all over the world (thanks to the internet) I found a great pure wool that felted like a dream and then my knitted and felted handbag collection started. I have been knitting handbags now for two years and my addiction continues.
I started buying more and more wool as other people asked me to get them some too and then began my new business Knitting4fun. My husband has learnt to build my website with the help of a friend, and here we are today knitting like crazy and a house that is so full of wool that there really is no spare room anywhere. We are now importing some wonderful yarns from around the world.
Now many others have joined the knitted handbag addiction and it’s really great to see what everyone is doing.
I have met some wonderful new friends through knitting and look forward to making lots more!!
Living Threads Exhibition East Midlands Textile Group April 2007
Not only do I have a love for Wool and Yarn, I am also very pasionate about other crafts. At the recent Living Threads Exhibition which is held bi-annual, I exhibited my Pantomine Doll creations. As usual I left everything to the last minute and only finished the Dame (right) at 3.00am on the morning of the show.
